The Walker is for teens only on this night of live performances, dancing, art, and snacks curated by the Walker Art Center Teen Arts Council (WACTAC)—all inspired this year by artist and activist Keith Haring.

Teen Takeover is an all-teen event where WACTAC hosts teens throughout the metropolitan area at the Walker. For high school students only. ID required for entry.

To help us promote future events and programs, this event will be documented with photography. By attending, you consent to appear in this documentation and its future use by the museum.

Activity Information

Dance Dance Revolution, 6:30–9:30 pm
Join a Dance Dance Revolution dance battle!

Traveling Photobooth, 6:30–9:30 pm
Visit the photobooth to take a picture with your friends!

Screenprinting, 6:30–9:00 pm
Choose a design curated by WACTAC to screenprint onto an item of clothing, a tote bag, or a bandana, courtesy of Alchemist Printing. Bandanas and tote bags will be provided. If you prefer to bring your own item of clothing to print, it must be able to lay flat for printing. Darker colors may work best with the bright pink ink.

Make a Friendship Bracelet, 6:30–9:30 pm
Stop by the Art Lab to make a friendship bracelet.

Visit the Walker Art Center Library, 6:30–9:30 pm
The library will be open to serve as a meditative / chill space to relax and decompress.

Performances, 6:30–9:00 pm
Dance to music spun by DJ queenDuin before performer Sasha Cassadine takes the stage for a drag performance to close out the evening.

Explore the Galleries, 6:30–9:30 pm
Take a look at the exhibitions Keith Haring: Art Is for Everybody and Tetsuya Yamada: Listening.

Accessibility, Content, and Sensory Notes

This program includes colorful light, loud sounds, sudden changes in pitch or tone, and requested audience participation. Questions? For more information, email teenprograms@walkerart.org.

Content guidance: The exhibition Keith Haring: Art Is for Everybody includes subjects related to politics, sexuality, and the body. Several works in the exhibition contain mature content and nudity. One room in Gallery 1 includes sexually explicit imagery. Visitors do not need to walk through this room to access the rest of the exhibition.

Sensory note: Videos on view may include flickering effects or sounds that change in volume, pitch, and tone. One room glows with colorful light.
