Show & Tell: An Exhibition for Kids
Tickets & Info
Show & Tell is an exuberant, hands-on exhibition designed just for kids!
Built around five exploratory zones—Play, Make, Find, Read, and Watch—Show & Tell encourages young people to approach contemporary art with creativity and imagination. Where Cas Holman’s Critter Party (2024) offers a sculpture to touch, climb on, and modify, Caroline Kent’s colorful abstractions inspire kids to create their own collages to project in the gallery. A porthole wall reveals a trove of hidden surprises, from a miniature Spoonbridge and Cherry to a family of funky creatures. And in the comfy “Watch” zone, a varied selection of short films prompts curiosity and conversation.
With vibrant graphics and thoughtful spatial design, Show & Tell is an exhibition full of tiny worlds, tall tales, and endless stories. To ensure both fun and safety, families are encouraged to read our FAQ below. As a Walker collection show, gallery texts are presented in English, Spanish, Somali, and Hmong.
Welcome! Here are answers to some commonly asked questions to help make your visit easier and even more fun! For the full FAQ, see our Show & Tell FAQ PDF.
Q: What age range is Show & Tell geared toward?
A: The show is designed to be accessible and engaging to prekindergarten, kindergarten, and elementary school–aged children as well as kids-at-heart!
Q: What safety precautions should we be aware of?
A: Good question! Here’s what to know:
• Several films in the “Watch” cinema contain flickering or pulsing effects and sudden changes in pitch, volume, or tone.
• A jigsaw puzzle on a large table has small pieces not recommended for ages 3 and under.
• While the Critter Party climbing structure has mats on either end, throwing things or jumping off the top is not allowed. A maximum of 20 kids can play on the Mama Critter sculpture at a time. At most, 10 can be on top.
• Please keep an eye on your children at all times. The Walker is not responsible for childcare, accidents, injuries, or lost/stolen items. Gentle play, walking, and conversation are encouraged!
Q: Can we touch the art?
A: The answer is both yes and no. In the special exhibition Show & Tell, you can touch and play when you find the “Play here” message and the “touch” icon showing a hand inside a circle. Artworks without the touch symbol, including those outside of this exhibition, are fragile and should not be touched unless specified.
Q: When is the museum less busy?
A: The Walker is open Wed, 10 am–5 pm; Thu, 10 am–9 pm; and Fri–Sun, 10 am–5 pm.
The museum tends to be quietest Wed–Fri, 2–5 pm, and on Sensory Friendly Sundays, our monthly program designed for individuals with sensory processing differences, autism spectrum disorder, or developmental delays.
The museum tends to be busier Thu, 5–9 pm, during Free Thursday Nights and is busiest Sat, 10 am–3 pm, during Free First Saturdays (Sat, 10 am–5 pm). If gallery attendance exceeds capacity, staff may ask visitors to wait for a brief period and enter when the exhibition becomes less crowded.
Additionally, new Walker members enjoy one-hour early access to Show & Tell on the third Saturday of every month from 9–10 am. To join or learn about membership, visit our Membership page.
Q: Are food and drink allowed in the galleries?
A: No, please keep food and drinks out of the gallery spaces. Snacks and drinks from home are welcome outside the gallery in the Cargill Lounge and the Main Lobby. Cardamom restaurant, located inside the Walker near the Main Lobby, has a kids’ menu.
Q: Where do I put my stroller and bags? Are there infant care rooms and changing stations? Where can I nurse?
A: Stroller parking and quarter-activated lockers are available on-site. All restrooms and baby care rooms have changing tables. Breastfeeding is allowed anywhere in the museum.
