In an allegory for the AIDS epidemic, housewife Carol (Julianne Moore) develops an autoimmune allergy to the 20th century. Haunting in every detail—from a black couch placed in a sterile white living room and the barely audible hum heard throughout the film to the cult-like leaders at the camp—the film shows how the horror of a dutiful and empty everyday life is most frightening of all. 1995, video, 119 minutes.
