Find the intersections between art, books, and poetry while learning about the work of Allen Ruppersberg. You can make your own book and write a poem in a poetry workshop!

Gallery admission is free for everyone on the first Saturday of each month from 10 am to 6 pm, with a variety of family activities scheduled from 10 am to 3 pm.

Art Activity: Books, Books, Everywhere
10 am–3 pm

Make a single-page artist book inspired by the work of Allen Ruppersberg. Artist Dana LeMoine will lead you through the steps of transforming folded paper into a finished piece of art.

Dana LeMoine’s art focuses on printmaking and artist books. She currently teaches in MCAD’s Continuing Education program, and has previously worked as Education and Community Programs Manager at Highpoint Center for Printmaking and taught locally at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, Art Lending Library, and Waseca Art Center, among others.

Writing Workshop: Cut n’ Paste Poems
10 am–3 pm

Write a poem using a collective word bank in this activity led by local poet Miriam Karraker. Take a peek at Allen Ruppersberg’s posters for inspiration, then grab a handful of his words and paste them down to write your poem. Feel free to use your own words and contribute some to the pile before you leave!

Letterpress Demonstration: Fresh Prints!
10 am–3 pm

Artists from local collaborative Proof Public will demonstrate letterpress printing with handset type. Learn about this centuries-old process and then contribute to a community-generated wall of prints.

Proof Public is a collaborative of Twin Cities letterpress printers and artists, with a mission to amplify marginalized voices through the craft of traditional letterpress printing. Proof Public creates programs and educational opportunities rooted in the social role of printers to increase access to information, advance design innovation, and support the community.
