Evening for Educators: Keith Haring: Art Is for Everybody

Join us for Evening for Educators, a free after-hours event for K–12 teachers, to celebrate the exhibition Keith Haring: Art Is for Everybody. Teachers will have the opportunity to explore the galleries and pick up resources to help connect themes in Haring’s artwork to the classroom.
The exhibition spans the full arc of the artist’s career and includes a wide range of works, including major paintings, sculptures, drawings, and mural-scaled works featuring Haring’s emblematic characters, such as dancing figures, barking dogs, and crawling babies. Haring’s art and passionate activism were intertwined, and the works on view reflect his commentary on issues surrounding environmentalism, capitalism, religion, race, and sexuality. Evening for Educators is free and open to K–12 teachers across disciplines.
Doors open at 5 pm and the presentation will begin at 5:15 pm. The program will begin with a presentation about Haring’s work by Brandon Eng, Curatorial Assistant. Teachers will then be treated to VIP access to the newly opened Haring exhibition, complete with demonstrations from Walker educators about ways to engage students with the artwork using our new multi-modal teaching tools.
Educators may bring one additional guest. Parking validation will be provided.

Content note: The exhibition Keith Haring: Art Is for Everybody includes subjects related to politics, sexuality, and the body. Several works in the exhibition contain mature content and nudity. One room in Gallery 1 includes sexually explicit imagery. Visitors do not need to walk through this room to access the rest of the exhibition.
