Are you a teacher in the Twin Cities or surrounding areas looking to integrate contemporary arts education into your classroom? Join us on October 22 for Evening for Educators, a free after-hours event for K–12 teachers, to celebrate the recent opening of the exhibition Dyani White Hawk: Love Language. Teachers will have the opportunity to learn about themes in the exhibition from Iyekiyapiwiƞ Darlene St. Clair, Lower Sioux Dakota, Indigenous Research Professor at the University of Minnesota; explore the galleries; and pick up resources to help connect the exhibition to the classroom.

Evening for Educators is free and open to K–12 teachers across disciplines. Doors open at 5 pm and the presentation will begin at 6 pm. Educators may bring one additional guest, and parking validation will be provided.

Bio

Iyekiyapiwiƞ Darlene St. Clair is Indigenous Research Professor in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota. Her work focuses on several areas: Dakota studies; Native Nations of Minnesota; the integration of Native cultures, histories, and languages into curricula and educational institutions; the arts and cultural expressions of Native peoples; Dakota places and sacred sites; and anti-racist pedagogy.

St. Clair leads the Mni Sota Makoce Curriculum Project, with the Native nonprofit Dakota Wicohan, that is being implemented in sixth-grade classrooms across Mni Sóta. She directs the Native Studies Summer Workshop for Educators (NSSWE), a professional development workshop hosted by Native Nations since 2007. She is Mdewakaƞtuƞwaƞ Dakota and a citizen of the Lower Sioux Indian Community in Minnesota.
