A project from the first Sundance Lab, El Norte is the tenderly drawn story of siblings Rosa and Enrique’s journey from Guatemala to the United States. Produced at a time when debates regarding immigration were often bereft of humanistic insight, El Norte cast light on the political turmoil and labor conditions shaping the experience of millions of American residents. 1983, in Spanish and Maya with English subtitles, 35mm, 141 minutes.
