Bio

Mari Navarro (DJ Q) is a nonbinary artist and creator of Gothess. They invest time in creating spaces focusing on inclusion for their BIPOC Queer siblings. They grace the DJ Altar under the alias DJ Q and have been a DJ for over a decade. They are originally from Chicago, where they first found their love of the goth subculture. They saw the freedom the subculture brought by challenging all of the binaries. That influence made a huge impact and shaped the perspective and playlist of DJ Q as an artist. Many years later, they started their DJ career in Portland, Oregon, where they were active in the goth scene and played in venues such as the Star Theater for HIVE (one of the longest-standing goth nights in PDX) and as a resident DJ at the Coffin Club (Portland’s horror-themed bar). They are now very grateful for the opportunities in MPLS that have created a beautiful home base that allows them to unleash all the darkwaves in a wonderfully receptive dance community.
