The Walker galleries host a dynamic slate of pace-setting contemporary art exhibitions.

The Walker Art Center galleries host an ever-evolving program of pace-setting exhibitions showcasing contemporary art. With up to five shows on view at any given time, the galleries present emerging and established artists, thematic shows, and retrospectives. Also featured are ongoing presentations drawn from the Walker’s collection of more than 16,000 works by nearly 6,000 artists. Together, the Walker’s galleries exemplify the institution’s mission to support and share with audiences the multifaceted and genre-defying practices of artists today.

Exhibition spaces consist of a seven-gallery tower in the Walker’s 1971 building (designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes), along with the Burnet, Target, and Friedman Galleries in the 2005 expansion (designed by Herzog & de Meuron). Over the course of its almost 150-year history, the Walker’s galleries have supported a range of experiences, from live art activations to school tours to moments of quiet reflection.
