Free First Saturday
program—a day of fun for families—features two concerts by musical guests Elizabeth Mitchell and Dan Littleton, founding members of the indie-rock band Ida. Their irresistibly sweet, undeniably cool renditions of classic tunes are sure to appeal to both big and small ears. Throughout the afternoon, families can also participate in art-making activities, hear stories based on rhyming folktales, view films, and take tours of the Walker’s expanded facility and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. All activities are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Onstage
Elizabeth Mitchell, 11 am and 3 pm, Walker Cinema
Sing along and tap your toes during two live concerts with musical guests Elizabeth Mitchell and Dan Littleton (founding members of indie-rock band Ida), who bring their tender sounds to the Walker’s Cinema stage. Songs ranging from folksy covers by Woody Guthrie to traditional favorites like “Skip to My Lou” will warm the hearts of all generations.
Art-Making for the Entire Family: Paper Dreams
12 noon—4 pm, Star Tribune Foundation Art Lab
Dive into a variety of papers to create a colorful collage with New York–based artist Ida Pearle. Make a picture full of patterns and shapes that reflects a snippet from your life.
Family Building Tour
12 noon and 1 pm, Meet in Bazinet Garden Lobby
Move and stretch throughout the new building with dancer Derek Phillips and uncover patterns, shapes, and angles in the architecture and in your own movements!
Story Time
12:30, 1:30, and 2:30 pm, U.S. Bank Orientation Lounge
Repeat the beat with storyteller Beverly Cottman, who performs rhyming folktales from around the world.
The Big Screen
1 pm, Walker Cinema
See fantastic legends and myths come to life on the big screen.
Family Sculpture Garden Tour
2 pm, Meet in Outer Garden Lobby
Step outside and soak up the sun on a guided tour of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. Pick up a sketch pad at the Bazinet Garden Lobby desk, so you can draw textures and patterns you find along the way.
