Walker Art Center's Target Free Thursday Nights in August Include The Artist's Bookshelf Book Club and Gallery Tours

The Walker Art Center’s Target Free Thursday Nights in August are highlighted by another edition of the Walker book club discussion group The Artist’s Bookshelf, featuring The Inheritance of Loss by Kiran Desai (August 9, 7 pm). Set in mid-1980s India on the eve of the movement for Nepalese independence, this novel examines the epic issues of globalization, fundamentalism, and exile through the personal stories of several characters. Other highlights in August include gallery tours of ongoing exhibitions, including Picasso and American Art (through September 9), a groundbreaking exhibition organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art that juxtaposes Picasso’s art with that of luminaries such as Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein, Max Weber, Louise Bourgeois, and Jasper Johns; and Paper Trail: A Decade of Acquisitions (through September 23), which addresses the means by which artists today are exploring notions of time, place, and narrative through the intimacy of paper.
