Walker Art Center Seeks Designers for Temporary Mini-Golf Course to Open in Summer 2008

Art and architecture merge with miniature golf in this open call for designers to create holes for the Walker Art Center’s second installment of Walker in the Rough: Artist-Designed Mini Golf, a collaboration with mnartists.org, which returns next summer after its popular debut in 2004. Designers are asked to respond to the theme of socially responsible design, the primary focus of the outdoor exhibition Design for the Other 90%, which will coincide with Walker in the Rough. Proposals that address issues such as water, communication, shelter, transportation, and sustainability will be given priority. The course will be located on the grounds of the Walker’s future park. A panel of curators, artists, architects, and one golf pro will judge entries and make selections for each of the course’s 10 unique holes. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden in 2008, Walker in the Rough opens Memorial Day weekend and closes in September. Visit walkerart.org for submission guidelines. Deadline for proposals is January 14, 2008.
