Minneapolis, November 10, 2011—Choreographers’ Evening has celebrated the remarkably diverse range of Minnesota dance for almost 40 years—from established choreographers playing with new ideas to some of the freshest emerging talent. This year’s guest curator, local dance mainstay and bon vivant choreographer Chris Schlichting, brings his expansive view of dance to a program destined to spark debate and chart new directions in the art of movement. He has assembled a snappy sampler of the thriving local scene featuring works lasting seven minutes or less.

Choreographers’ Evening 2011 features performances by Jessica Briggs; Jaime Carrera; Kenna-Camara Cottman; Hijack; Samantha Johns and George McConnell; Mad King Thomas; Megan Mayer; Jenny Pennaz; Patrick Scully; Debbie, Secretary; Deja Joelle Stowers; and SuperGroup.

Curator Schlichting came to dance first as a break-dancer and through the resurgence of swing dance in the late 1990s. He later joined Ethnic Dance Theater, which focuses on traditional folk steps, and at the same time soaked up a lot of the experimental contemporary work happening in the Twin Cities. Schlichting has been featured in Momentum: New Dance Works.
Choreographers’ Evening is made possible by generous support from the McKnight Foundation.
