The Walker Art Center's Raising Creative Kids Programs in November and December Feature Creative Collaborations, Chance & Dance, and Wall to Wall Walker
Minneapolis, November 3, 2011—The Walker Art Center’s Raising Creative Kids program in November and December features Creative Collaborations, a day of learning how artists work together (Saturday, November 5) and a day-into-night Walker open house for families, Wall to Wall Walker (Saturday, December 3). Also in November and December, the Walker presents Arty Pants: Your Tuesday Playdate, the popular program designed to nurture creativity and engage a child’s mind. Arty Pants programs are presented on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month and feature art projects, films, gallery activities, and story readings.

Free First Saturdays Are for Families
Activities are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis from
10 am–3 pm. Gallery admission is free from 10 am–5 pm on Free First Saturday.
Families can enjoy live performances, films, gallery adventures, and hands-on art-making from 10 am–3 pm. Activities recommended for ages 6–12.
Creative Collaborations
Saturday, November 5, 10 am–3 pm, Free
Embark on a journey inspired by the many ways artists from different disciplines collaborate. Join us for special tap dance performance created by choreographer Kaleena Miller and design your own font with local artist Kindra Murphy.
Gallery Tour on the Move: 11:30 am, 12:30 & 1:30 pm (30 minute tour)
Meet in Gallery 8 for warm-up, move to Galley 7 for exploration
Participate in a movement-based tour of Dance Works I: Merce Cunningham and Robert Rauschenberg. No prior dance experience needed. The program will begin with a basic warm-up, followed by an exploration of the gallery. Please wear comfortable clothes and come prepared to move. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Recommended for ages 12 and under.
Art Lab Activity: Type Face, 10:00am – 3:00 pm
Star Tribune Foundation Art Lab
Join graphic designer Kindra Murphy of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design to create a typographic self-portrait by mixing and matching old-school transfer type.
Wall-to-Wall Walker
Saturday, December 3, 10 am–3 pm, Free
It’s time for the Walker’s annual open house extravaganza! Visual art, film, and performance mix, mingle, and mesh through activities in every gallery. Watch a vintage film from the collection about Red Grooms’ famous Target Store installation and take part in a specially designed scavenger hunt. Experience the McGuire Theater as a studio space, and make your own work of art in the Star Tribune Foundation Art Lab.
Arty Pants: Your Tuesday Playdate
Parents and caregivers with youngsters ages 3–5 have a fun way to find artistic inspiration with Arty Pants: Your Tuesday Playdate. Activities designed to cultivate your child’s creative nature include art-making, films, stories, and gallery activities. Meet other families for a treat at the Garden Café. Activities are free with gallery admission; free for children and members.

Arty Pants Art-making Activities in November/December: Chance and Dance
Tots and their adults will learn about legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham as guest instructors get them grooving in a playful new way, and then they can head into the art lab for adventures with time and space and films that celebrate dance.
