in their first Twin Cities performance at 8 pm Friday, April 23, at the Cedar Cultural Center, 416 Cedar Avenue South, Minneapolis. A legendary figure in contemporary African music, Mtukudzi is a master songwriter with a gift for combining gripping melodies, captivating rhythms, and potent lyrics. He sings of everyday life in a society plagued by social and political upheavals, incorporating metaphors and folk tales that carry profound messages about the AIDS pandemic and other important issues. Outside of southern Africa, he is fast becoming recognized for his commanding stage presence and electric performances with his nine-member band. Presented by the Walker Art Center and the Cedar Cultural Center.
