Visitors to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden will pick up some

Good Vibrations

at the Walker Art Center’s

Free First Saturday

program on Saturday, July 3, from 11 am-4 pm. Participants can explore the magic of sound and vision by taking in a performance by local artist DJ Brian Engel-Fuentes, or take their own turn on the micropohone at a workshop in spoken word, poetry slams, and open mics led by local poet and Loft Youth Program instructor Jacey Choy. Other featured events include an art-making activity where participants can turn digital pictures into a musical score with the help of a computer; a large-scale billboard-making project; and interactive Sculpture Garden tours.

All Free First Saturday events are free and recommended for all ages.

Good Vibrations

Get inspired by the innovative work of artist-in-residence Christian Marclay, a visual artist and experimental musician. Experience the wonders of sound and vision while listening to a hip DJ, creating musical scores on the computer, and taking center stage during an open-mic session.

Performance: DJ Brian Engel-Fuentes, 11 am

Do you know how many beats it takes ‘til you feel like dancing? Find out when you hear the sensational spinning sounds of local musician DJ Brian Engel-Fuentes.

Way Out (in the) Open-Mic Session, 1 pm

Jacey Choy, local poet and Loft Youth Program instructor, leads an hourlong performance poetry workshop. Learn the basics of spoken word, poetry slams, and open mics. Then it’s your turn to read your new poem during an open-mic format. Read by yourself, as a family, or as a pack of friends.

Art-Making for the Whole Family: Inner Sounds, 12 noon–4 pm

Join Piotr Szyhalski in the Walker on Wheels mobile art lab as he presents Inner Sounds, a computer program designed to turn images into musical scores. Learn how to turn a digital picture of yourself into a set of sounds.

Billboard Project, 12 noon–4 pm

Print, paste, and collage with the entire family, as you design a large-scale billboard together.

Garden Tours: Textural Treasures!, 12 noon and 2 pm

A Walker tour guide will lead you in a discovery of the variety of textures that can be found in the Garden—soft, rough, slick, and bumpy. Where you find them may surprise you! Meet at the Vineland Place steps.
