Tere O’Connor’s Provocative Multimedia Work, LAWN, Part of Walker Series, Of This World: Art + Environment

The provocative multimedia work LAWN, New York dancemaker Tere O’Connor’s collaboration with filmmaker Ben Speth (Dresden, My Friend Paul), will be presented by the Walker Art Center at 8 pm Thursday–Saturday, March 4–6, at the Southern Theater, 1420 Washington Avenue South, Minneapolis. O’Connor’s newest work interweaves his highly personal choreographic lexicon with a series of narrative and abstract films to examine the disturbing state of our environment and its conflicted issues. A new score by composer James Baker intermingles electronically disfigured natural sounds with acoustic sources, articulating the delicate balancing act between human nature and its effects on the ecosystem. Each performance is followed by a postshow talk with O’Connor, moderated Thursday and Friday by Philip Bither, Walker Performing Arts Senior Curator, and Saturday by Linda Shapiro, University of Minnesota Dance Program. These programs are part of the Walker’s ongoing series Of This World: Art + Environment featuring thought-provoking presentations, discussions, and workshops that alter perceptions of the world we share.
