This month, as autumn draws to a close, the Walker Art Center offers a break from winter’s growing chill on Thursday nights. Think critically and stay warm with Adiós Utopia: Dreams and Deceptions in Cuban Art Since 1950, opening November 11. Engage with the exhibitions —both new and continuing— though programming in the galleries and in Walker Cinema.

In 2014, Cuban artist and activist Tania Bruguera announced a public performance in which the people of Havana would be given a platform for one minute of free speech. She was arrested before the event even began. In this area premiere documentary, Bruguera talks about the impact of censorship and how it has shaped her work. Directed by Lynn Hershman Leeson. 2017, DCP, 64 minutes.

Cuban Posters from 1960s to Present Day

Join Sandra Levinson, executive director of the Center for Cuban Studies (CCS), New York, for a lively discussion about Cuban posters. CCS houses thousands of original examples, all of which Levinson carried across the border herself. See many of the works in person and learn from this sage of contemporary Cuban art.
