September Public Tours at the Walker Art Center Offer Last Chance to See Picasso and American Art and Paper Trail: A Decade of Acquisitions
September tours at the Walker Art Center offer a final chance to see the exhibitions Picasso and American Art (closing September 9), a groundbreaking exhibition organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art that juxtaposes Picasso’s art with that of luminaries such as Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein, Max Weber, Louise Bourgeois, and Jasper Johns; and Paper Trail: A Decade of Acquisitions (closing September 23), which addresses the means by which artists today are exploring notions of time, place, and narrative through the intimacy of paper. Tours are also offered for Catherine Sullivan: Triangle of Need (through November 18), a new multichannel video installation that weaves a nuanced story about evolution, class, wealth and poverty, and the inequalities in our global economy through a series of immersive image and sound environments); and of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, the Walker building, and ongoing collection exhibitions. On Saturday, September 1, as part of the Walker’s Free First Saturday, patrons can take part in a gallery crawl through the Picasso and American Art galleries. Also offered in September are Spotlight Gallery Talks led by Walker curators and tour guides highlighting selected artworks or artists in the galleries.
Gallery admission is $10 adults; $8 seniors (65+), $6 student/teen (with ID) and free to Walker members and children 12 and under. Admission is free with a ticket to a same-day Walker event, $4 with a ticket stub up to six days after an event. Gallery admission is free to all every Thursday evening from 5–9 pm and on the first Saturday of each month.
