Puppet Show and One-Man Circus Act Highlight August Free First Saturday

An out-of-the ordinary day is in store at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden for the Walker Art Center’s Free First Saturday program

Spectacular Vernacular!

from 11 am–4 pm Saturday, August 7. The outdoor family event opens with a marionette puppet show by Open Eye Figure Theater, followed by David Walbridge’s The Big Fun Show, a spectacular one-man circus. In addition, visitors can participate in extreme face-painting and balloon sculpting workshops as well as take guided Garden tours.

Walker staff and volunteers wearing red shirts will help direct participants through the Garden. All events are free and recommended for all ages. In case of severe weather, the event will be canceled. For details, call 612.375.7611.

A unique puppet show and a one-man circus act will have you speaking in spectacular vernacular. Step into character on this theatrical day. Activities are suitable for all ages.

Performance: Open Eye Figure Theater, 11 am

Grab a seat and discover the mastery of marionettes in a puppet show presented by Open Eye Figure Theater.

Performance: The Big Fun Show, 1 pm

Watch David Walbridge bring a great big mini-circus to life. The Big Fun Show includes magical mysteries, amazing juggling feats, and unicycle tricks guaranteed to make your head spin.

Art-Making for the Whole Family: Extreme Face-Painting Workshop, 12 noon–4 pm

Let your face be your canvas as you create a unique face painting, guided by Jazzy the Clown and Friends, masters of clown makeup.

Art-Making for the Whole Family: Balloon Sculpture Workshop, 12 noon–4 pm
Follow sculptor/paper artist Amanda Degener, who will float you through the exciting process of making paper for your own washi balloon sculpture.

Garden Tours for Families: Artworks Large and Small, 12 noon and 2 pm

Meet at the Garden’s main Vineland entrance.
Join a Walker tour guide and explore huge structures reaching up to the sky and miniscule worlds hidden underground.
