Public Tours at the Walker Art Center in October Highlight Latest Exhibition, Heart of Darkness, Featuring Works by Thomas Hirschhorn, Ellen Gallagher, and Kai Althoff
October tours at the Walker Art Center include a look at the new exhibition Heart of Darkness, opening on Saturday, October 21, which explores the promise and peril of darkness, both as artistic strategy and as metaphor. The exhibition presents three immersive installations by Thomas Hirschhorn, Ellen Gallagher, and Kai Althoff. Tours are also available for Ordinary Culture: Heikes/Helms/ McMillian, highlighting the work of three artists who examine culture by dissecting its systems of signs and values, and Cameron Jamie (closing October 22), featuring work that documents various underground and uncanny rituals of Western culture. On Saturday, October 7, as part of the Walker’s Free First Saturday, patrons can take part in a Garden Crawl. Also offered in October are tours of the Walker’s ongoing exhibitions and recently expanded facility, Spotlight Gallery Talks led by Walker curators and tour guides highlighting selected artworks or artists in the galleries, and a special joint tour between the Walker and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, winding through the collections of both institutions to tell the story of our entwined histories.
Gallery admission is $8 adults; $6 seniors (65+), $5 student/teen (with ID), and free to Walker members and children 12 and under. Admission is free with a ticket to a same-day Walker event, $4 with a ticket stub up to six days after an event. Gallery admission is free to all every Thursday evening from 5–9 pm and on the first Saturday of each month.

Over The Top: Baroque Art Past and Present
The bold colors, lights and shadows, and dramatic stories employed by 17th-century artists painting in the baroque style are not lost to history. Contemporary artists are drawn to a similar aesthetic of theatrical extravagance. These tours explore artistic excess in the exhibitions A Passion for Paintings: Old Masters from the Wadsworth Atheneum at the MIA and Heart of Darkness at the Walker.
