Modern Living + Contemporary Style = Unique Gifts from the Walker Art Center Shop

The Walker Art Center Shop features the latest offerings and ideas in contemporary design with a distinctive inventory of merchandise from around the globe. A valuable resource year-round, but especially during the holiday season, the Shop offers a unique assortment of award-winning contemporary home and office accessories; artisan jewelry; books about multidisciplinary contemporary art, design, and culture; creative toys; and exclusive Walker products. Highlights this season include contemporary Mexican design items in conjunction with the Walker’s centennial exhibition Frida Kahlo, on view October 27–January 20; resources for DIY (Do-It-Yourself) projects; unique home, office, and personal accessories; an eclectic array of jewelry; creative games and toys for children; and a wide selection of books. Many items are Minnesota exclusives. Shop hours will be expanded throughout the holiday season and 24/7 online shopping is available at shop.walkerart.org. All proceeds support the Walker’s artistic and educational programs.

Minnesota Exclusive: DFC

Former New Yorkers, now Mexico City-based designers Tony Moxham and Mauricio Paniagua, use scientific-grade Pyrex glass etched with their own contemporary and organic designs.

Phuze Jewelry and Home Accessories

By combining the color and transparency of glass and crystal, Mexico City-based Phuze creates inventive work, from unique jewelry to home accessories. A partnership founded by lead designer Orfeo Quagliata, his father. acclaimed artist Narcissus Quagliata, and designers from various disciplines, the company is dedicated to solid craftsmanship and aesthetic integrity.

The Best of the 21st Century – 2: Mexican Architecture 2005–2006

Although this beautiful volume covers only two years, it documents a particularly creative period in Mexican architecture, including many different styles, in and beyond the horizons of the capital city. Softies

Adorable animals and other sweet treats beg to be made in this darling craft book. Inspired by the Japanese craze for plush toys called “softies,” veteran crafter Therese Laskey commissioned projects from acclaimed artists around the world. Featured are quirky creatures from Japan, Chile, Israel, Texas, and everywhere in between. Each artist brings a wicked sense of fun to these 25 cute, weird, edgy, or artful creations.

Anni Albers Jewelry Studio Kits

Based on an original piece featured in a 1941 traveling exhibition of common object jewelry by Anni Albers and student Alex Reed. Julie Klear has exhibited her art in manyU.S. museums and has 15 years experience teaching art to children. Moulay Essakalli, a Rhode Island School of Design-trained graphic designer, was born and raised in Morocco. Together, as Zid Zid, the couple produces exciting, imaginative items for kids, combining a striking artistic sensibility with the colors and visual inspiration of Marrakech.

Enclosure by Andy Goldsworthy

Andy Goldsworthy is one of the most prominent artists in the world today. Although commissions take him all over the world, his latest series of artworks was created in Northwest England, where he took stone enclosures found across the countryside originally used to shelter and wash sheep and rebuilt them with a spectacular series of paintings incorporating the hoof-prints of sheep. These form the core of Enclosure, a reflection of Goldsworthy’s lifelong interest in the land and its history.
