Make a "Mod" Dash to the Walker Art Center's February Free First Saturday

Fun for the entire family is in store at Totally MODular, the Walker Art Center’s Free First Saturday event from 10 am–5 pm Saturday, February 4. Featured events include a performance by local musician Douglas Ewart; an art lab activity to construct a home with moving parts; a reading of Anastasia Sue’s book Raise the Roof!; film screenings; and family tours of the galleries.

Activities are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Saturday, February 4, 10 am–5 pm

Performance: Douglas Ewart and Friends

11 am
Minneapolis-based musician Douglas Ewart teams up with a poet, a dancer, and a percussionist to delight families with far-out rhythms during a live show in the William and Nadine McGuire Theater.

Art-Making for the Entire Family: Mobile Homes

11 am–4 pm
Take your home on the road in this workshop in the Star Tribune Foundation Art Lab, where you’ll build a house with moving parts.

Family Gallery Tour: Architecture Scavenger Hunt

12 noon and 2 pm
Tour the exhibition Some Assembly Required: Contemporary Prefabricated Houses and the new Walker to seek and find fun building facts. Meet in the Bazinet Garden Lobby.

On the Big Screen: Urban Adventures

1 and 3 pm
Tales of the city come to life in several short films.

WAC-ky Tales: Raise the Roof! by Anastasia Sue

1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 pm
It’s easy to build a house if you have a dog that helps lay tile, saw wood, and pour concrete! Listen to the story of one family that creates a new home through teamwork and cooperation.

Join us for an afternoon of films from some of the Twin Cities newest up-and-coming filmmakers under age 18. This program is presented by the Twin Cities Youth Media Network, a collective of organizations that promote and support youth filmmaking.
