Meet heroes, gods, and villains as stories from the great Indian epic, the Ramayana, unfold throughout the day at the Walker Art Center’s Free First Saturday event
Prince Rama’s Journey
, from 10 am–3 pm Saturday, October 3. Highlights of the day include a music and dance sampler with Ragamala Dance and Çudamani, featuring the otherworldly sounds of the gamelan gendar and the rhythmic South Indian classical dance form of Bharantanatyam. Other events include a Bharatanatyam dance workshop, storytelling performances, and an art-making workshop that bring tales of the Ramayana to life. Ragamala Dance and Çudamani present the world premiere of the Walker-commissioned work Dhvee (Duality) in the McGuire Theater from October 1–4. Copresented by Ragamala Dance.
Activities are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis from 10 am–3 pm. Gallery admission is free from 10 am–5 pm on Free First Saturday.
