Gallery Talk with Jason Moran: Sounds Like Adrian Piper, 7 pm

Meet in the Bazinet Garden Lobby
For acclaimed young composer and pianist Jason Moran, an interest in the Walker’s permanent collection, and the work of Adrian Piper in particular, led to the creation of a new composition and performance. His work, a theatrical jazz suite entitled Milestone, is informed by his recent study of Piper’s photographic work, The Mythic Being; I/You (Her), and integrates its conceptual framework. Join Moran, vocalist Alicia Hall, and Walker Curator Elizabeth Carpenter for a tour and discussion of Mythic Being and the other works that captured Moran’s imagination.

Screening: Mike Kelley’s Extracurricular Activity Projective Reconstruction, 6 pm

Lecture Room
In conjunction with the June 2 conversation between Mike Kelley and critic John Welchman, the Walker presents a screening of Domestic Scene and Day is Done from Kelley’s large-scale video work, the Extracurricular Activity Projective Reconstruction series started in 2000. An ongoing project, The Extracurricular series is a projected group of 365 videotapes and video installations that use re-staged photographs of “extracurricular activities” found in high school yearbooks and newspapers, to address issues of repressed memory, abuse, and the culture of victimization.

Better Looking is Back!
