Family Fun Comes in All Sizes at the Walker Art Center's Free First Saturday Event in July
There’s fun to be had on a grand scale at Tiny, Tall, Big, Small, the Walker Art Center’s Free First Saturday event from 10 am–3 pm Saturday, July 7. Featured events include a performance by Umbrella Bed, which boasts a 10-member lineup featuring drums, guitars, vocals, bass, and a six-piece horn section; an art-making activity to make fish sculptures for an installation in the Walker on Wheels mobile art lab, which will be transformed into an aquarium; a Karaoke Party installation led by artist Mike Hoyt; and a tour of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.
Activities are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis from
10 am–3 pm. Gallery admission is free from 10 am–5 pm on Free First Saturday. In the event of rain, outdoor activities will be canceled or moved indoors.

Get inspired by Frank Gehry’s larger-than-life Standing Glass Fish, then make your own see-through fish sculpture and fill it with colorful paper.

Walker on Wheels Mobile Art Lab
Bring your fair-finned creation to the Walker on Wheels mobile art lab and help transform the space into an aquarium gallery.
Installation: Karaoke Party, 10 am–3 pm
Near Spoonbridge and Cherry
Meet local artist Mike Hoyt, whose installation takes families on an art adventure of multiple proportions. Once inside his creation, sing a song at the Karaoke Party.
Performance: Umbrella Bed, 11 am and 12:30 pm
Belvedere Sculpture
Move to the ska beats of Umbrella Bed, which boasts a 10-member lineup featuring drums, guitars, vocals, bass, and a six-piece horn section—the heaviest metal in the universe.
Garden Tour: It’s all about scale!, 12 noon and 2 pm
Meet at Bazinet Lobby Entrance
Discover a giant steel spider (with a swing), a 1,200-pound cherry, and a miniature underground city in the Garden.
