Families are invited to spend the day working with visiting artists at the Walker Art Center’s Free First Saturday event
Meet the Artists-in-Residence
from 10 am–3 pm Saturday, October 4. Featured events include an art-making activity where families take part in Tomás Saraceno’s Museo aero solar project, to help create a gigantic inflatable balloon using hundreds of recycled plastic bags; a performance by celebrated Japanese-American choreographer/dancers Eiko & Koma; a story reading of David Weisner’s aerial adventure June 29, 1999; a photo opportunity to get your family’s portrait taken in front of a portion of Museo aero solar at the Best Buy Digital Imaging Booth; and a screening of a video documenting the production and flight of Museo aero solar in other cities around the world.
Activities are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis from
10 am–3 pm. Gallery admission is free from 10 am–5 pm on Free First Saturday.

Let your imagination soar as you listen to David Weisner’s story June 29, 1999, an unusual tale of a science experiment gone awry. Find out what happens when you combine weather balloons, vegetable seedlings, and extra-terrestrials!

Join celebrated Japanese-American choreographer/dancers Eiko & Koma for two live encounters with breathtakingly slow movement inspired by the butoh dance form.
