Arty Pants: Your Tuesday Playdate at the Walker Art Center
“People know that numbers are vital because numbers can go into infinity while objects are finite. Numbers are the vitality of the world.” —Mario Merz
Parents and caregivers with youngsters ages 2–5 have a fun way to find artistic inspiration with
Arty Pants: Your Tuesday Playdate
, the popular Walker Art Center program designed to nurture creativity and engage a child’s mind. Arty Pants programs, presented on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, feature art projects, films, gallery activities, and story readings. Meet other families for a treat at Wolfgang Puck’s Coffee Cart or lunch at Gallery 8 Café. Fall Arty Pants programs, which focus on promoting early number and math skills, are presented from 11 am–1 pm Tuesdays, September 11 and 25, and October 9 and 23. Activities are free with gallery admission; Walker members and children ages 12 and under always receive free admission.
Many artists like Mario Merz incorporate their fascination with numbers and mathematical theories into their creative process and artwork. In September and October, participants can enjoy activities which playfully engage both the left and right sides of the brain and promote early number and math skills. Together you can count your way through the Walker’s collections and stop to engage with hands-on gallery activities. Ready4K, a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that every young child in Minnesota enters kindergarten encouraged, supported, and fully prepared for learning success, will share activities and information about how to help your child and other families prepare for school. Create art, hear stories, and see films which will have your “whole brain” thinking about math/numbers in a whole new way.
