Arty Pants: Your Tuesday Playdate at the Walker Art Center

“The most pleasurable thing in the world, for me, is to see something and then translate how I see it.” —Ellsworth Kelly

Parents and caregivers with youngsters ages 2–5 have a fun way to find artistic inspiration with Arty Pants: Your Tuesday Playdate, the popular Walker Art Center program designed to nurture creativity and engage a child’s mind. Arty Pants programs, presented on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, feature art projects, films, gallery activities, and story readings. Meet other families for a treat at Wolfgang Puck’s Coffee Cart or lunch at Gallery 8 Café. Summer Arty Pants programs focus on music and art—presented from 11 am–1 pm Tuesdays, July 10 and 24, and August 14 and 28. Activities are free with gallery admission; Walker members and children ages 12 and under always receive free admission.

Develop your child’s concrete and abstract thinking skills as you wander together through the galleries and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden in search of people, places, and things. In July and August, participants will discover ways that contemporary artists transform everyday objects. Venture into art-making with your kids and translate ordinary items into dynamic works of art, listen to stimulating stories, and watch films that will rouse the eyes and mind.
