“Which is more musical: a truck passing by a factory or a truck passing by a music school?” —John Cage

Parents and caregivers with youngsters ages 2–5 have a new way to find artistic inspiration with

Arty Pants: Your Tuesday Playdate

, the popular ongoing Walker Art Center program designed to nurture creativity and engage a child’s mind. Arty Pants programs, presented monthly on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, feature art projects, films, gallery activities, and story readings. Meet other families for a treat at Wolfgang Puck’s Coffee Cart or lunch at Gallery 8 Café. The Arty Pants programs in May and June focus on music and art—presented from 11 am–1 pm Tuesdays, May 8 and 22, and June 12 and 26. Activities are free with gallery admission; Walker members and children ages 12 and under always receive free admission.

Musical exchanges between young people and their parents are the springboard for creativity and imagination. In May and June, participants will fill the Walker with sound as they create tunes and art together. Visitors will learn about artists who were directly inspired by music during a kazoo tour of the galleries, make their own instruments, enjoy films, and engage with story readings intended to develop active listening skills.
