The Collection
The Walker’s Visual Arts Permanent Collection focuses on contemporary art and includes more than 16,000 works by nearly 6,000 artists, spanning major movements such as Minimalism and Pop alongside interdisciplinary practices.
The Galleries
With up to five shows on view at any given time, the Walker presents work by emerging and established artists alongside thematic exhibitions, retrospectives, and presentations drawn from the Walker’s collection.
Exhibitions take place across multiple gallery spaces, including the seven-gallery tower in the Walker’s 1971 building designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes, and the Burnet, Target, and Friedman Galleries in the 2005 expansion by Herzog & de Meuron.
Together, these spaces support a wide range of experiences, from live art activations and school tours to moments of quiet reflection.
The Walker’s Visual Arts department presents forward-thinking contemporary art exhibitions and oversees the museum’s expansive collection.
