“This story resonated for me,” said Steve McQueen of Solomon Northup’s 1853 book Twelve Years a Slave. “Possibly just because I live in Amsterdam, it reminded me very much of Anne Frank’s diary.” In a November 9, 2013 dialogue at the Walker Art Center, McQueen discussed his film 12 Years a Slave, the enduring importance of its themes today, and his life as a visual artist and filmmaker.
